John J. O’Connor makes large-scale drawings on paper with colored pencil and graphite. He is also a founding member of the art and technology collective NonCoreProjector. John was born in Westfield, MA and received an MFA and MS from Pratt Institute. He attended The MacDowell Colony, Skowhegan, Vermont Studio Center, the Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program, and received 2 NYFA Grants in Painting and Drawing and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant. John has participated in many national and international exhibitions, including Andrea Rosen Gallery, Pierogi Gallery, Pazo Fine Art, Weatherspoon Museum, Ronald Feldman Gallery, Marlborough Gallery, White Columns, the Museum of Contemporary Art Baltimore, Wellin Museum, Queens Museum, Tang Museum, The Lab (Ireland), Martin Asbaek Gallery (Denmark), Neue Berliner Raume (Germany), Rodolphe Janssen Gallery (Brussels), Louhu District Art Museum (Shenzhen, China), and TW Fine Art (Australia). His work has been reviewed in The Washington Post, Bomb Magazine, The New York Times, Artforum, the Village Voice, Art Papers, the Brooklyn Rail, and Art in America. John’s works are included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Weatherspoon Museum, Hood Museum, and the New Museum of Contemporary Art, among others. He teaches at Sarah Lawrence College.
