Kate Zambreno is the author of eight books, including: Heroines (Semiotext(e)), a collage of the modernist “mad wives”; Book of Mutter, an elegy catalyzed by the work of Henry Darger and Louise Bourgeois (Semiotext(e)); Appendix Project (Semiotext(e)), lectures exploring ongoingness; the flash and long form collection Screen Tests (Harper Perennial); Drifts (Riverhead), a portrait of reading and writing that mediates on Rilke, animals, photography, and pregnancy; and To Write As If Already Dead (Columbia University Press), a study on Hervé Guibert. She is at work on The Missing Person, a cycle exploring the longing for art and the natural world amidst crisis. Publishers Weekly called Zambreno “a master of the experimental lyric essay” and Esquire, “one of our most formally ambitious writers.” She is also at work on a novel, Foam. She currently teaches in the graduate nonfiction program at Columbia University and is the Strachan Donnelley Chair in Environmental Writing at Sarah Lawrence College. She lives in Brooklyn with her partner, the artist and writer John Vincler, their two daughters Leo and Rainer, and their dog Genet.
