Lamar Peterson, born in 1974 in St. Petersburg, Florida, received his MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2001. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Peterson has shown in numerous group and solo exhibitions, including The Studio Museum of Harlem, New York; Rochester Arts Center, Minnesota; Orlando Museum of Art, Florida; University Art Museum at SUNY, Albany, and the Fifth International SITE Santa Fe Biennial, Santa Fe, NM; Peterson’s work delves into themes drawn from popular culture, personal histories, blending surrealism and figurative elements. He is a recipient of a 2013 Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters & Sculptors Grant, a 2022 Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant, and a 2022 McKnight Artist Fellowship for Visual Artists.
