Lawrence P. Jackson

Lawrence Jackson teaches in the English and History departments at Johns Hopkins University. He writes twentieth century African American literary history and biography. A Baltimore native, he is also the founder and director of the Billie Holiday Project for Liberation Arts, designed to foster archival preservation and robust intellectual and artistic exchange between the Hopkins Homewood campus and historic Baltimore neighborhoods. His book Chester B. Himes: A Biography, was a finalist for the Pen/Faulkner award.
