A writer residing in Grosse Point Farms, Michigan, Paul Clemens will use his Fellowship term to study the dismantling of a Detroit auto plant. 

Mr. Clemens has written many well-received articles, including "A City of Hard Knocks and Hardwood," New York Times (26 June 2005); "Can’t Forget the Motor City," New York Times Magazine (28 August 2005); "A Comeback Kid for a Dead-End Town," New York Times (13 November 2005); and "Dismantling Detroit," New York Times (28 September 2007). His book Made in Detroit (Doubleday, 2005) was a 2005 New York Times Book Review Notable Book and was given the Great Lakes Book Award from the Great Lakes Booksellers Association.  It was also selected as a notable book by the Library of Michigan and the Detroit Free Press.
