Pico Iyer was born in Oxford, England, to parents from India, and educated at Eton, Oxford, and Harvard. He is the author of two novels and seven works of nonfiction, including Video Night in Kathmandu, The Lady and the Monk, and The Global Soul. An essayist for Time magazine since 1986, he also writes regularly on literature for The New York Review of Books, on globalism for Harper’s, and on everything for newspapers from the New York Times to the Financial Times. The book he wrote during his Fellowship year, The Open Road, describing thirty-four years of talks and travels with the Fourteenth Dalai Lama, was published in a dozen countries and was a best-seller across the U.S.
