Rennan Barkana has been a Senior Lecturer at Tel Aviv University since 2001, and in 2008 was named a Moore Distinguished Scholar at Caltech.  He has published over forty articles in journals including Science and Nature, focusing on understanding the properties of the stars and galaxies that formed in the early universe and predicting observational signatures of the hydrogen gas that once filled the universe. In 2001 he wrote two major reviews of the field that together have been cited 500 times, and in 2006 organized an Aspen Astrophysics Conference on the subject. Barkana holds a Physics Ph.D. degree from MIT, and carried out postdoctoral research at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, and at the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics in Toronto.
