Robert Michael Zaller

Robert Zaller was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1940. He received his B.A. from Queens College, CUNY in 1960, and his M.A. (1963) and Ph.D. (1968) from Washington University. A specialist in Tudor-Stuart History and Professor of History at Drexel University, his works include The Parliament of 1621: A Study in Constitutional History, Europe in Transition, 1660-1815, and The Discourse of Legitimacy in Early Modern England. He is the editor of The Classic Historians, and, with the late Richard L. Greaves, coeditor of the Biographical Dictionary of British Radicals in the Seventeenth Century. A scholar as well of modern literature, drama, film, and art, he is the author of two critical studies of Robinson Jeffers, The Cliffs of Solitude and the forthcoming Robinson Jeffers and the American Sublime, and editor of Centennial Essays for Robinson Jeffers. His books of verse include The Year One, Lives of the Poet, and Islands, and he is the translator, with Lili Bita, of Thirty Years in the Rain: The Selected Poetry of Nikiforos Vrettakos. He is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
