Robert Russell Bennett

Bennett, Robert Russell: Appointed for creative work in musical composition, in France and Germany; tenure, twelve months from May 15, 1928.

Born June 15, 1894, at Kansas City, Missouri. Education: Studied composition and orchestration with Carl Busch.

Played violin and organ in the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra, two seasons. Conducted and arranged orchestral scores of operettas and musical plays in New York, 1919–26; editor and arranger of music for Harms, Inc., New York.

Principal compositions: “Rondo Capriccioso” for four flutes, performed for several seasons by George Barrère and his Little Symphony; incidental music for Arthur Hopkins’ productions of “Macbeth,” “Hamlet” and “Romeo and Juliet;” three songs from Chaucer for soprano and string quartet, and a sonata for violin and piano, both performed by the Société Musicale Indépendante, Paris.
