Artist Ruben Ochoa was born in Oceanside, California, in 1974. A graduate of the Otis College of Arts and Design (B.F.A. 1997) and the University of California, Irvine (M.F.A., 2003), he lives and works in Los Angeles, California. His work has been exhibited at the Minnesota Center for Photography, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Hallwells Contemporary Arts Center in Buffalo, and at the 2008 Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art, among many other places.

In 2002, Mr. Ochoa was given a University of California Institutional Research Award. His work has also been supported by grants from the Durfee (2004) and Creative Capital (2005) foundations. He has been a Nimoy Foundation California Biennial artist-in-residence at the Orange County Museum of Art, and he held an International Studio and Curatorial Program residency in New York City in 2007. In addition, Mr. Ochoa received an Emerging Artist fellowship from the California Community Foundation (2004) and a New Media Fellowship from the Rockefeller Foundation (2006).

Examples of his work are in the permanent collection of the Albright Knox Museum in Buffalo, New York. His Guggenheim Fellowship appointment is for installation art.
