Born March 10, 1873, in Germany. Education:  University of Berlin, Ph.D., 1898.

Professor of Art, 1921–33, University of Freiburg; Visiting Lecturer in the History of Art, 1935, University of Pennsylvania and New York University; Professor of Art, 1937–42, Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.
