Yu Liu

The study for which Yu Liu received his Guggenheim Fellowship in 2006 has just been published by the University of South Carolina Press. In Seeds of a Different Eden: Chinese Gardening Ideas and a New English Aesthetic Ideal, Mr. Liu asserts that as the English-Chinese trade and English missionary efforts in China expanded in the late seventeenth century the influence of Chinese horticultural, philosophical, artistic, and literary modes became increasingly evident in England’s intellectual and cultural productions.  Read more
