Zachary Lazar published his first novel, Aaron, Approximately, in 1998. Sway, his second novel, was named a Best Book of 2008 by Publishers Weekly, Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone, and several other newspapers and magazines, and was a finalist for the Discover Award. The book, which uses such iconic real-life figures as the Rolling Stones and Manson Family to tell the story of the rise and fall of the 1960s counterculture, has been translated into three languages. Mr. Lazar’s nonfiction work Evening’s Empire, will be published in 2009.
He received the James Michener/Copernicus Society Prize from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and has held fellowships at the Fine Arts Center in Provincetown and at Yaddo. He teaches creative writing at Hofstra University.
