Hovde, Brynjolf Jakob:  Appointed for researches on social and economic conditions in Scandinavia, especially in the 19^th and 20^th centuries, preparatory to writing a history of Scandinavia; tenure, twelve months from September 1, 1920.

Born May 17, 1896, at Jersey City, New Jersey. Education: Luther College, A.B., 1916; State University of Iowa, M.A., 1919, Ph.D., 1924 (Senior Fellowship, 1923–24).

Instructor in Norwegian Language and Literature, 1916–17, Instructor in History, 1919–23, Luther College; Assistant Professor of History and Political Science, 1924–27, Allegheny College; Associate Professor of History, 1927—, University of Pittsburgh.

Publications: “The Diplomatic Relations of the United States with Sweden and Norway, between 1814 and 1905,” 1921. Articles in Journal of Political Economy, Current History Magazine, Studies and Records of the Norwegian-American Historical Association.
