Hovde, Brynjolf Jakob:  Appointed for researches on social and economic conditions in Scandinavia, especially in the 19th and 20th centuries, preparatory to writing a history of Scandinavia; tenure, twelve months from September 1, 1920.

Born May 17, 1896, at Jersey City, New Jersey. Education: Luther College, A.B., 1916; State University of Iowa, M.A., 1919, Ph.D., 1924 (Senior Fellowship, 1923–24).

Instructor in Norwegian Language and Literature, 1916–17, Instructor in History, 1919–23, Luther College; Assistant Professor of History and Political Science, 1924–27, Allegheny College; Associate Professor of History, 1927—, University of Pittsburgh.
