Lois Conner

Lois Conner is a photographer of contemporary landscapes. She has spent much of the last quarter of a century working in Asia, particularly China and Vietnam, while also exploring various projects in Europe and America. These photographs have been exhibited internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the retrospective Landscape as Culture at the Sackler Gallery of Art (National Gallery) in Washington, D.C.  In the fall of 2012, several of her large lotus triptychs were featured in the Chinese Gardens: Pavilions, Studios Retreats exhibition, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.  Recent solo shows include the Drawing the Land in 2012 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China and Beijing Building in 2011 in London, England.  She has been included in numerous shows at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, most recently in Pictures by Women: A History of Modern Photography.

Her project about the transformation of Beijing, Beijing: Contemporary and Imperial, will be published by Damaini (Italy) next year and exhibited at the Cleveland Museum of Art in the spring of 2014. In progress are her American Trees and Lotus books, which will be published in 2015.  Her first book, China: The Photographs of Lois Conner, was published by Callaway, New York, in 2000.

Lois has been teaching photography for over thirty years, including a decade at Yale University School of Art.  Other venues include Princeton University, Sarah Lawrence College, Stanford University, and the School of Visual Arts, among others.
