Alex Camilleri is a Maltese-American screenwriter, director, editor, and producer. His debut feature, LUZZU, premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival where it won the Special Jury Award for Acting.

The film ranked amongst the best-reviewed films of the year, hailed by the Los Angeles Times as “a triumph” and the Guardian as a “nothing short of future neo-realist classic.” It later screened at New Directors/New Films and BFI London Film Festival, was released in cinemas globally, and was Malta’s submission to the 94th Academy Awards.

Camilleri is the winner of the Best Director award at the 2021 Mostra de València, the 2022 “Someone To Watch” Independent Spirit Award, and the Grand Prize at the 2022 Jerusalem Film Lab for the screenplay of his sophomore feature film, currently titled ŻEJTUNE.
