Born January 15, 1890, in Bavaria. Education: University of Cambridge, 1914–15; University of Heidelberg, Ph.D., 1918; European Fellowship, Bryn Mawr College, 1924–25.

Lecturer in English, Universities of Dorpat (Russia), Freiburg, Rostock, Karlsruhe, 1918–24; Associate Professor of French, 1925–27, Wittenburg College; Associate Professor of English Literature, 1927—, Mount Holyoke College.
