Born May 12, 1912, St. Louis, Missouri. Education:  University of Michigan, A.B., 1932, Ph.D., 1941. Studies in Europe, 1933–34.

Teaching Fellow, 1934–37, University of Michigan; Instructor in English, 1937–40, Assistant Professor, 1940—, Cleveland College of Western Reserve University.
