HICKS, GRANVILLE:  Appointed for the writing of an interpretation of English literature since 1890, with particular reference to the influence of social changes upon literature and the influence of literature upon social changes; tenure, twelve months from June 1, 1936.

Born September 9, 1901, at Exeter, New Hampshire. Education:  Harvard University, A.B., 1923, M.A., 1929.

Instructor in English, 1925–28, Smith College; Assistant in English, 1928–29, Harvard University; Assistant Professor of English, 1929–25, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Publications:  The Great Tradition: An Interpretation of American Literature Since the Civil War, 1933; One of Us (with Lynd Ward), 1935; John Reed: The Making of a Revolutionary, 1936. Co-editor of Proletarian Literature in the United States, 1935.
