Born November 21, 1907, at Brooklyn, New York.  Education:  Columbia University, B.S., 1929, A.M., 1930; Princeton University, Ph.D., 1934 (Francis Hinton Maule Fellow, 1932–33). Investigator, Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, Summers, 1930–36. National Research Council Fellow, University of Chicago, 1934–35.
