Jennifer Mittelstadt is Professor of History at Rutgers University, where she studies the twentieth-century United States, with interests in the state, gender, race, the military, social movements and foreign affairs. She is the author of From Welfare to Workfare: The Unintended Consequences of Liberal Reform, 1945-1964 (University of North Carolina, 2005) and The Rise of the Military Welfare State (Harvard University Press, 2015). She co-authored the Historians Amicus Brief signed by the Organization of American Historians and the American Historical Association in Jane Doe, 2, et al. v. Trump. She has published in the Journal of Policy History, International Labor and Working Class History, the Journal of Women’s History, Social Politics, Jacobin, War on the Rocks, the Washington Post, New York Times, Vox, and Los Angeles Times, among others. She has she has held the Harold K. Johnson Chair in Military History at the US Army War College. And she been a Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars and the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers at the New York Public Library. She is currently researching the history of the grassroots American right and their interest in the global affairs.
