Born January 10, 1904, in the State of Pernambuco, Brazil.  Education:  University of Rio de Janeiro, M.D., 1927. Studies in the United States and in Europe, 1932–33, 1937–40.

Assistant in laryngology, 1927–32, University of Brazil; Assistant in nose, throat and ear, 1934, School of Medicine and Surgery and Gaffrée Guinle Foundation Hospital, Rio de Janeiro; First Assistant in Neurosurgery, 1937–40, St. Luke’s Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri.
