Born September 1, 1893, in Japan. Education: Los Angeles School of Arts and Design, 1908–10; National Academy of Design, 1912–13; Independent School of Art, 1914–16; Art Students League, 1916–20.

Instructor, 1933–34, Art Students League, New York City.

Awarded Honorable Mention, Carnegie International, 1931; Temple Gold Medal, Pennsylvania Academy, 1934; Los Angeles Museum Prize, 1934. Exhibited at Pennsylvania Museum of Fine Arts, 1921; Buffalo Fine Arts Academy, 1926; Brooklyn Museum, 1927; Fifty Prints of the Year, 1928—; Corcoran Gallery Annual, 1929—; Museum of Modern Art, 1929; Carnegie International, 1930, 1931; Art Institute of Chicago Annual, 1930—; Los Angeles Museum, 1930, 1933; Whitney Museum of American Art, 1932, 1933; College Art Association Travelling Exhibition, 1932; Los Angeles Olympic Exhibition, 1932; Century of Progress Exhibition, Chicago, 1933.
