Anna Badkhen has spent most of her life in the Global South. Her immersive investigations of the world’s iniquities have yielded hundreds of essays and articles, and six books of literary nonfiction: Fisherman’s Blues, Walking with Abel, The World Is a Carpet, Afghanistan by Donkey, Waiting for the Taliban, and Peace Meals: Candy-Wrapped Kalashnikovs and Other War Stories. She is a recipient of the Barry Lopez Visiting Writer in Ethics and Community Fellowship. Psychologists for Social Responsibility awarded her wartime reportage the Joel R. Seldin Award for Excellence in Peace and Justice Journalism for writing about civilians in war zones. She grew up in the Soviet Union.
