Anthony Doerr

Anthony Doerr was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and educated at Bowdoin College in Maine. His mother is a science teacher and his father runs a small printing company. Doerr’s books include a story collection titled The Shell Collector, a novel titled About Grace, and a memoir titled Four Seasons in Rome. His latest book is Memory Wall, which contains six fictional stories set on four different continents, each primarily about the fragility of collective and personal memory. Doerr also writes the “On Science” column for the Boston Globe.

Doerr’s fiction has won three O. Henry Prizes and has been anthologized in The Best American Short Stories, The Anchor Book of New American Short Stories, and The Scribner Anthology of Contemporary Fiction. His work has won prizes including the Rome Prize, the New York Public Library’s Young Lions Award, the Barnes & Noble Discover Prize, the Hodder Fellowhip at Princeton University, and the Ohioana Book Award twice. Doerr has lived in Kenya, New Zealand, and Italy. He currently makes his home in Boise, Idaho, with his wife and two sons.
