Born April 26, 1900, at Oberlin, Ohio.  Education:  Swarthmore College, A.B., 1921; University of Michigan, Ph.D., 1924. International Education Board and University of Michigan Fellow, Copenhagen, 1924–26; University of Michigan Fellow, Switzerland, Germany and England, 1926–27.
