David Taylor

David Taylor is currently an Associate Professor at New Mexico State University, where he teaches photography.  Much of his artwork reevaluates the commonly accepted narratives that form our understanding of the American West.  By amplifying idiosyncratic confluences of time, place, and event, Mr. Taylor attempts to reveal a more complex and varied history than is accommodated by a monolithic national allegory.  He has upcoming exhibitions at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and the Museum of Contemporary Photography and Columbia College in Chicago, Illinois.  Taylor’s work is in several permanent collections including the Museum of Contemporary Photography, the Washington Stage Arts Commission, the University of Washington, and the El Paso Museum of Art.  He recently completed a public commission for a United States Border Patrol station in Van Horn, Texas, and is working on a second commission for the new Federal Courthouse currently under construction in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

During his Fellowship term, Mr. Taylor plans to continue his exploration of the complexities of the U.S.-Mexico border issue, using photographs, video, and multimedia installations.
