HOOKER, EDWARD NILES.  Appointed for the preparation of a history of English literary theory and criticism in the neo-classical period, 1660-1750; tenure, twelve months from October 7, 1942.

Born August 26, 1902, Albany, New York.  Education:  Union College, A.B., 1923; University of Michigan, Summer, 1924; Syracuse University, M.A., 1925; Johns Hopkins University, Ph.D., 1932 (James Buchanan Johnston Scholar, 1932–34).

Instructor in English, 1923–28, Syracuse University; Instructor in English, 1928–29, Hope College; Instructor in English, 1934–36, Johns Hopkins University; Instructor in English, 1936–38, Assistant Professor, 1938—, University of California at Los Angeles.
