Field of Study: Music Composition

Julia Wolfe’s music is distinguished by an intense physicality and a relentless power that pushes performers to extremes and demands attention from the audience. Wolfe’s recent premieres include Pretty, embracing the grit of fiddling and the relentlessness of work rhythms; UnEarth, which addresses the climate crisis; and Her Story, which pays tribute to the centuries of ongoing struggle for equal rights and representation for women in America. Wolfe has received the Pulitzer Prize in Music, a MacArthur Fellowship, and was named Musical America’s 2019 Composer of the Year. Wolfe is a co-founder of the music collective Bang on a Can.
