Much of Katharina Rosenberger’s work manifests in an interdisciplinary context and is bound to confront traditional performance practice in terms of how sound is produced, heard and seen.
Rosenberger’s compositions, installations and interdisciplinary operas have been featured at festivals such as the FERUS Festival, Brooklyn, M.A.R.S. Festival Los Angeles, Sweet Thunder, San Francisco, SPARK, Northern Spark, Minneapolis, Heroines of Sound, Berlin, Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik, KunstFest-Spielen Herrenhausen, Hannover, Lucerne Festival, Tage für Neue Musik, Zürich, Journées Contemporaines, Basel, Festival Archipel, Genf, Festival reMusik, St. Petersburg, Felicja Blumental Festival, Tel Aviv, Visiones Sonoras, Morelia, Shanghai New Music Days, October Contemporary, Hongkong as well as in many concert series throughout Europe and the United States.
During her tenure as a Guggenheim fellow, Rosenberger is looking forward to collaborating with the [Switch~ Ensemble] on an extended intermedia work. Past collaborators include the Mivos Quartet, Wet Ink Ensemble, Bugallo-Williams Piano Duo, ensemble recherche, ensemble mosaik, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, Ensemble Nikel, Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, vocalists Shelley Hirsch, Pamela Z, Juliana Snapper and visual artist Abdolreza Aminlari.
Rosenberger’s installation work VIVA VOCE and Room V have been awarded with the “Mediaprojects Award”/ Sitemapping of the Swiss Federal Agency (OFC), Berne. She is a past recipient of the Hellman Fellowship, San Francisco, the Sony Scholar Award, and the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung Commission for her composition Gesang an das noch namenlose Land. Her portrait CD TEXTUREN, released on HatHut Records, was selected for the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, Bestenliste 4_2012 and awarded with the Aaron Copeland Recording Award. The release was among the “Releases of the Year”, WIRE – REWIND, UK and mentioned among “The best opera and classical music”, TIME OUT NEW YORK.
Katharina Rosenberger is Professor at the University of California San Diego and teaches composition and sound installation art. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from Columbia University, New York, USA.
