Maura Brewer is a video-essayist and performance artist who makes work about the relationship between artistic production, capitalism and power. Her ongoing project, “Private Client Services,” documents her attempts to launder money through art acquisition. Brewer’s work has been exhibited at spaces including MoMA, Art in General, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève and is in the collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Her projects have appeared in the Guardian, CBS News and the Paris Review. She is a 2022 Creative Capital fellow, and a recipient of the Fellowship for Visual Artists at the California Community Foundation and the City of Los Angeles Master Artist Fellowship. She lives in Altadena, California, where she works as a private investigator.
