Osvaldo Morrone

Osvaldo Morrone is an Independent Researcher with CONICET and a subdirector of the Instituto de Botánica Darwinion (IBODA) in San Isidro, Argentina, and former editor of its journal Hickenia (2000-04). An internationally respected botanist, Mr. Morrone specializes in the taxonomy of Poaceae (true grasses), focusing in particular on the plant tribe Paniceae. During his Guggenheim Fellowship term, he conducted systematic studies in the genus Paspalum (Poaceae), working not only in Argentina but at the Missouri Botanical Garden, New York Botanical Garden, and Smithsonian Institution.

Mr. Morrone was educated at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP), receiving a B.S. in 1986 and his Ph.D. in 1989. He has published over one hundred articles in his field, and with compatriot and IBODA colleague Fernando O. Zuloaga has written seven monographs (sometimes with additional collaborators) on South American flora. Among his most significant publications are the following: (with S. S. Denham, S. S. A Research Fellow of both the National Museum of Natural History of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D. C. (1993, 2002) and the Missouri Botanical Garden (1997, 2002), Mr. Morrone has also held a Fellowship from the Myndel Botanical Foundation in Argentina, and is a member of the American Society of Plant Taxonomists.
