Quincy Porter

Porter, William Quincy:  Appointed for creative work in musical composition, abroad; tenure, twelve months from April 15, 1929.

Born February 7, 1897, at New Haven, Connecticut. Education:  Yale University, A. B., 1919; Yale University School of Music, (Steinert and Osborne Prizes), Mus. B., 1921; studies composition with Ernest Block, 1921–23.

Taught Theory at Cleveland Institute of Music, 1922–28, the last three years as Head of Theory Department. Played viola in Ribaupierre Quartet for five years.

Principal compositions:  Ukrainian Suite, performed by Institute Orchestra in Cleveland, conducted once by A. Ribaupierre, twice by composer, 1925 and 1926; by Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Howard Hanson conducting, Rochester, 1925 and 1926, and by Smith College Orchestra, conducted by composer, Northampton, 1928; Quartet No. 2, performed by Ribaupierre Quartet, Cleveland and New Haven, 1926; Violin Sonata, performed by A. de Ribaupierre and Beryl Rubinstein, Cleveland, 1927 and 1928, and by Flonzaley Quartet, New Haven, 1928; <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:
