Ronit Ricci is Sternberg-Tamir Chair in Comparative Cultures and Professor in the departments of Asian Studies and Comparative Religion at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She also holds an affiliation with the School of Culture, History and Language at the College of Asia and the Pacific at the Australian National University.

Her research interests include Javanese and Malay manuscript cultures, Translation Studies, and Islamic literatures of South and Southeast Asia. She teaches courses on Indonesian history and culture, translation, the Indian Ocean, and travel literature. She is the author of Islam Translated: Literature, Conversion, and the Arabic Cosmopolis of South and Southeast Asia (University of Chicago Press, 2011), which won several awards. Her most recent book, Banishment and Belonging: Exile and Diaspora in Sarandib, Lanka and Ceylon (Cambridge University Press, 2019), explores the little-studied literary culture of the Sri Lankan Malays and is grounded in family archives she documented and digitized across Sri Lanka. She edited Exile in Colonial Asia: Kings, Convicts, Commemoration (University of Hawaii Press, 2016), and co-edited (with Greg Fealy) Contentious Belonging: The Place of Minorities in Indonesia (ISEAS, 2019). Her current project is a study of interlinear translation across the Indonesian-Malay world.
