Steven S. Gubser

Steve Gubser is a Professor of Physics at Princeton University. He  has published over ninety articles on high-energy physics, focusing on string theory. He is one of the founders of the gauge-string duality, which relates quantum field theories in four flat dimensions (like the four dimensions of our world) to string theory in five curved dimensions. Recently, he has applied the ideas of the gauge-string duality to the study of the plasma of quarks and gluons produced in relativistic heavy ion collisions. It appears that properties of this plasma can be described, at least approximately, by a dual black hole in a curved five-dimensional spacetime.

Mr. Gubser received his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1998. He continued his research as a Junior Fellow of the Harvard Society of Fellows from 1998 to 2000, then returned to Princeton University as an Assistant Professor. In 2001, he moved to Caltech as a Professor of Theoretical Physics. He returned again to Princeton University in 2002.

Steve Gubser is a member of the American Physical Society, and he served as a General Member, Assistant Scientific Secretary, and Scientific Secretary of the Aspen Center for Physics. His previous honors include the European Physical Society’s Gribov Medal and the New York Academy of Science’s Blavatnik Award.
